Sand Castle

Castles on the beach,

Your life span measured

by the hands of man against the coming tide.

So dig a moat, build a wall.

Use these shells,

They work better,

They say,

To repel the water.

The water comes

The shells fall back,

The wall too low,

The moat too shallow.

More shells, better shells,

More sand, new sand,

Wood, metal, plastic.

I know you’re tired,

But quickly now, as best you can.

The water curls around,

Claims us all, one day…
